A workplace story.. Time Dilation

Many many years ago, I took my little son to work. He gazed at the workstations and the dev boards, stared at the unfamiliar adults walking by, conversing unfamiliar things around him. The day before, he was thrilled about this big day at mommy’s office, and had packed a mountain of art supplies and books, ready to keep himself busy... And here he was, already done with the day.. He explored the printer, nibbled the biscuits at the coffee station, and soon he was bored.. “Mommy, When will it be evening?” he pleaded with innocent impatience..

I recollect introducing him to a very young colleague.. A fresh grad.. My little son perhaps called this him Uncle, and the colleague quickly snapped, he was still young.. I did a quick math.. My son was 5.. I was 35.. Saurabh was like 20.. Oh my.. 15 years of gap between Saurabh and both of us.. That was a remarkable midpoint.. How young these fresh grads are.. I thought to myself.

Fast forward today.. the young crowd at my work place were gathering at a farewell cake cutting party.. Their laughter and chatter bringing warmth in my ears.. How young they are?! I was again thinking..

I was smiling to myself.. Fresh grads will only keep getting younger and younger… until I hit the ceiling. The dance of time :)
